I got a lot of very sincere birthday cards from friends telling me how my enthusiasm is contagious. I inherit the spirit of enthusiasm from my mother.
Just the other morning she called me....to remind me to get the ColdPlay tickets. No one likes ColdPlay the way I do. Everyone knows I do. A friend bbmed me at dawn to inform me of the breaking news. He opened pandora's box. I had to go! Other friends also bbmed and smsed me about the event. They talked me into it. "Go, they said, you can't miss it!" Today, a friend emailed me that the tickets were now available on line. I had to have them!
However, noone I know is willing to commit to a NewYear's celebration concert in AbuDhabi. Some talked about logistics, others had reluctant spouses, others much preferred the classical elegant party. My mother wished she could have come. She made sure I did. She encouraged me....as she always does and will live vicariously through me.
And so the build up for the Cold Play concert has begun. The day I confirmed the tickets, my spirits happened to be low. I leapt for joy when my husband promised he would take me and our son, against all odds to AbuDhabi, even if he were to miss other celebrations and other company.
"Cherchez la femme" has become part of the English idiom and it applies to my mother in a positive way. She has initiative and she pushes her influence and encouragement to put it mildly. She is the grandmother who recommended golf and sailing for my son. She is the mother who lobbied for me not to abandon pilates after I had completed the first package of ten lessons. She asked me: "one more lesson" just for her!
In need of a pep talk? My mother will always be there to push you foreword!
